Nitra Anardana (Dried Pomegranate Seeds)
Shop Pantry EssentialsSize: 100 g
About this item
Tangy dried pomegranate seeds. Nitra Anardana are sun-dried pomegranate seeds, the Punjabi souring spice that gives chole its deep, fruity tang.
Why cooks choose it
Anardana has a sweet-sour, slightly astringent taste that is rounder than lemon or amchur. Used whole it adds chewy bursts of tartness; dry-roasted and ground, it darkens and flavours chole masala, stuffed parathas and chutneys.
What to cook with it
- Punjabi chole with anardana
- Aloo or mooli parathas
- Anardana and mint chutney
- Fruit and papdi chaat
How to use
For powder, dry-roast on low heat for 2 to 3 minutes until crisp, cool and grind. Add about 1 teaspoon per 500 g chickpeas, or sprinkle whole seeds into paratha stuffing.
Pack sizes
Available in 100 g and 200 g packs.
Storage
Keep in an airtight jar away from humidity; the seeds can turn sticky if exposed to air.
